Jack-Up Barge BV (J-UB for short) had to deploy their J-UB 117 self-elevating Jack-Up platform to a wind farm project and needed to increase the maximum persons on board capacity with TLQ’s (temporary living quarters in 30 ft. containers). The LQ units were stacked on four levels.

Vuicon made a deck layout to put the TLQ’s in place and designed the sea fastening grillage with H-beams to secure them to the barge. All walkways and staircases were calculated and designed, as well as a main staircase tower, maintenance platforms and interface platforms to connect the helicopter platform staircase to all four levels. Several reports containing information and calculations in accordance with the DNVGL MODU code were issued and submitted to DNVGL for review and class approval.

A separate assignment was to analyse forces applied to the outrigger system on the pontoons bull rail and the local deck and hull structure. The load cases and maximum deflections (in hogging and sagging condition) were defined by J-UB. We performed the strength and buckling assessment with our FEMAP/NX Nastran finite element analysis software.

The J-UB 117 is mobilized and will be working until 2021 with a maximum of 102 people on board in the North Sea Borwin wind farm. Vuicon thanks Jack Up Barge for the pleasant cooperation!
